Start planning your trip to Bristol, England because something awesome might happen. Artist Luke Jerram is currently raising funds to build Park and Slide, a 300-foot-long slip-n-slide down the city’s Park Street. He wants to take this childhood activity out of your backyard and into the urban environment, enabling people to navigate the city in a fun, new way.
Through the crowdfunding site Spacehive, Jerram explains that the goal is to shut down Park Street on Sunday, May 4th. He and his team will construct the water slide using plastic sheeting and hay bales for padding and safety. The course will be spectator-friendly and free to the public. All you have to do is show up! Although it’s not the world’s longest water slide, it will probably make everything you’ve ridden before pale in comparison.
Bristol is a hilly city, and Park Street is a very long, straight, and steep hill. Jeram has already conducted a trial run for the project and concluded that this is an ideal location. "I like the way participants have a look of pleasure and fear in their eyes. They seem to slide in and out of control with their body and forces of gravity,” he explains. “Personally, I found the little adrenaline rush you get at the end, quite addictive."
The funding period isn’t over for Jerram’s project. At the time of writing, it’s collected over half of the stated £5,618 goal.
