"Code red. Today's emergency. Please help me," read Animal Heaven Animal Rescue's Facebook post on Sunday. Amidst rising floodwaters in Ireland, a lost donkey was struggling and in great danger. Earlier that day, the animal's owner sounded the alarm when he realized that his donkey was missing and AHAR immediately organized a rescue. After posting a video of the donkey on Facebook along with their plea for help, the animal rescue heard back from a man named Mike Fleming. He was willing to lend them his help and his boat.
Mike and a few others then went out in search of the donkey and, once they found him, they put a floatation device around his neck and carefully reeled him in. The moment he reached land, the donkey was grinning from ear to ear, clearly overjoyed by his narrow escape from danger and timely rescue. AHAR later decided to name him Mike (after his heroic rescuer) and brought him back to their barn. When the floods are gone, he will return to his owner—but, in the meantime, Mike is enjoying all the TLC he's receiving.
And here's that adorable grin again:
