Michael Grab, also known as Gravity Glue, has made a name for himself with his skillfully arranged and remarkably well-balanced stacks of rocks. The Colorado-based artist is adept at finding an intrinsic balance within his natural supplies, perceiving a harmony despite the chaotic conditions that surround each precarious structure. Gravity is the only glue that holds his delicate formations in a state of equilibrium. By finding small indentations that serve as contact points between each stone, and incorporating meditation into this therapeutic practice, Grab combines physical methodology with equally vital mental components in order to tune into himself and his environment, and find that essential place of stillness.
His contemplative stone arrangements are erected with patience and a pair of steady hands as Grab pays close attention to the vibrations that result from the minuscule adjustments to the rocks. Grab stumbled across the practise on a whim in 2008, but his curiosity for the process has quickly evolved into a true passion. As he explains, “I feel something divine when I practice. Immune to a complete explanation. Often times I feel as if I’m glimpsing some kind of truth as I dance among an orchestra of vibration and poetic form; a sense of transcendental beauty; brilliant expressions of zen.”
