Powerful steel engines blowing huge, undulating clouds of smoke into the air emerge from the fog in these strikingly beautiful images by engineer and self-taught photographer Matthew Malkiewicz.
Malkiewicz likes to travel and celebrates his travels and experiences in his work. He captures the lively motion and dynamic presence of trains as they zip along the tracks. In each magical scene, the artist invites viewers along on an adventure across sunny, snowy, or stark landscapes to enjoy the journey and not worry about the destination.
“My passion gravitates to the machines of yesteryear, fire breathing monsters that seem to be alive whether you have your hand against the polished steel or you are two bluffs away looking across acres of prairie grass," says Malkiewicz. "I envision how it must have been back in the day and try to create photographs as timeless as possible to depict what I consider a vibrantly better and sadly vanished time."
