Portland-based photographer Mako Miyamoto ventured underwater to capture the mysterious presence of animal life below the surface of the sea. Manta Ray Madness is a collection of enchanting photos taken off of the coast of Hawaii as the manta rays were feeding. Each image seems to capture the lively energy of hungry fish as they enjoy a feast of plankton in their natural surroundings.
While the subjects focused on eating, Miyamoto captured intriguing perspectives of the large fish, from above and below, with their fins spread wide. Smaller fish flutter around the larger creatures, who seem to glow in the soft blue light that radiates across the compositions. Through his photographs, Miyamoto brings the captivating mystery of the ocean up to the surface for viewers to enjoy on dry land.
