Paintings of Hilarious Grumpy Cats

We are always seeing funny videos of cute cats playing the piano, baffling their dog companions, and wildly chasing light reflections on the wall, but it's not often that these fuzzy little creatures are portrayed as grumpy. Until now. Based in New York, artist Aja Apa-Soura works out of her home studio to produce these vibrant paintings with a palette knife and pure, undiluted oils.

For these Grumpy Cats, thick daubs of paint cover the canvas in vibrant, textured feline portraits, some of which are blended naturally into backgrounds reminiscent of famous paintings like Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and The Scream by Edvard Munch. Even with such extremely disgruntled expressions, these cute cats will still make you laugh.

In addition to this project, Aja also explores a variety of subjects including an extensive collection of female nudes, as well as florals, urban cityscapes, abstracts, and landscapes, all of which you can check out at Sagittarius Gallery on Etsy.

Man Sleeping with Snakes

Manila's zoo owner, Emmanuel Tangco, not only handles snakes for a living, he also sleeps with them on occasion. Zoo owner Emmanuel Tangco read a book to his snakes in his bedroom in Malabon, Metro Manila Feb 3- 2013. The Lunar New Year begins on february 10 this year and marks the strart of the year of the snake.

Amazing Animal Prosthetics

People have been applying prosthesis to help the handicapped ones ever since the Egyptians – but probably only recently we realized, we’re not the only ones suffering the pain on Earth. Unlike people, animals can’t cry or complain about the pain, and the less resilient ones lead a much shorter and harder life in case of any accident. Even though veterinarians do provide considerable help, more serious surgeries or even usage of a special prosthetic is a fairly recent thing the humanity started doing for the animals.

While in the wild, animals can get hurt in a number of different ways, be that a disease or an accident, getting harmed by a human or larger predators, or any other. However, now more and more centers worldwide are applying mechanisms to help the animals recover from the injury and live as normal of a life as possible. Check out some inspiring examples of the how people have helped the animals by fitting them with a prosthetic needed!

Eagle

This bald eagle, named Beauty, was shot by a poacher. After three years a group of volunteers made her a prosthetic beak, which was a key to her survival: an eagle, which has to be hand-fed, is eventually euthanized, and Beauty was once again able to grasp food herself. 

Motala the Elephant 

Motala, aged 50, lost a foot after he stepped on a land mine. Luckily, Thailand is the one country in the world with an elephant hospital running, and dedicated workers could take care of Motala. 

In the picture below, you can see Motala, age 50, who lost his foot after stepping on a land mine. Thanks to the dedicated workers at the elephant hospital located in Lampang, Thailand, the elephant received a new prosthetic leg.

Fuji the Dolphin

Due to a necrotic disease, 75% of Fuji’s fin had to be amputated. It was the Bridgestone company, one of the largest manufacturers of tires, that created a silicone replacement for Fuji, making her the first dolphin with a prosthetic fin. 

Horse

Riley’s leg bone began to deteriorate due to a contaminated metal plate that was inserted. Due to the injury, the mare had to be put down, but the sanctuary staff decided to try a pioneering operation, which gave Riley an artificial limb and saved her life. 

Tuly the Tortoise

While hibernating, Tuly had her leg chewed off by a rat. It was saved by fitting a toy tractor’s wheel to it.

Oscar the Cat

A passer-by found Oscar injured by a combine harvester; as advised by a local vet, the owner of the cat from Jersey contacted a doctor in England, and after lots of x-rays being sent back and forth, the cat had two prosthetic legs fitted, as well as a rehab in the UK before coming back home.

Cassidy the Dog

Cassidy was found wondering in streets, underweight and missing a leg: after one family decided to adopt and take care of the dog, they found a facility that could create a prosthetic limb, making Cassidy the first dog to receive such treatment. 

Uzonka the Stork

Uzonka was injured by an unknown person, and had to undergo 5 preparatory surgeries, before it could have a prosthesis attached to its bill.

Amazing Cat With Eyebrows

Sam the cat has only one expression thanks to his 'eyebrows' - worried, His good humoured owner has posted 50 pictures of him online which have earned him worldwide internet fame.  He may have nine lives, but thanks to his unusual fur markings, Sam the cat has only one expression - worried.  The mystified moggy has become an internet sensation after his owner set up a page dedicated to him and his 'eyebrows'.  The feline, believed to be from New York, has more than 10,000 followers on picture sharing site Instagram, with his quizzical expression earning him world wide fame.

Sam the cat has become an internet hit thanks to his furr-owed brow and unfortunate hair markings. 

If the saying is to be believed Sam may have nine lives, but he has just one expression - worried.

The unusual fur markings, which make it appear as if he has eyebrows, have provoked much hilarity online from his many followers

The two black marks on his forehead give him a range of expressions that is wider than that of his feline friends, who usually reserve expressions of disdain for their owners.  

Sam's owner started the Instagram account which features almost 50 photos of the interestingly marked pet.

The photos instantly became popular on the account named, 'samhaseyebrows,'  with his owner stating in the biography: 'Sam This is Sam. He has eyebrows.'

The pictures of the cat quickly became an Internet sensation, spreading from Instagram to Twitter and Facebook.

Even Sam looks surprised by his new found fame.

But Sam looks less than impressed with his owner's sense of humour. In fact, he looks a little worried.

Even while relaxing before bed, Sam cannot wipe the expression off his face.

Sam the cat clearly does not share his owner's good sense of humor  and seems to find the whole affair rather... worrying.

The rare and unusual markings are caused by dark spots in his pure white fur

Quirky cats have long been an internet favorite.

In 2011, the web was flooded with pictures of people's cats that 'looked like Hitler' thanks to their unusual fur markings.

Last year a bizarre trend for posting pictures of cat's faces encased in bread emerged.

A Facebook group dedicated to dressing cats in bread, and promoted by blogs across the internet, earned more than 10,000 followers.

2012 also saw plans for the world's first Internet Cat Video Film Festival, which featured home videos of cats doing 'adorable activities.'
