Migingo Island

Migingo is a little 2,000-square-metre island, about half the measure of a football pitch, in Lake Victoria.Although minute  in size, the island is home to 131 people (according to 2009 census) living in crammed huts made of corrugated sheets and wood. Despite shabby living conditions, Migingo Island boasts of five bars, a beauty salon, a pharmacy as well as some inns and many brothels.

When pirates first heard that anglers were making £200 a day, roughly three or four times as much as can be made on land in an entire month, they flocked to the isle and robbed fish, money and motors.
The fishermen called upon their authorities for help in 2009 with the Ugandans being first to reply by dispatching maritime policeman.
Kenyan or Ugandan? The tiny island of Migingo in Lake Victoria houses up to 1500 people who make their living catching Nile Perch

Powerful Volcano Erupting in Chile

Billowing smoke and dazzlings sparks of lightning are beautifully captured by Chilean photographer Francisco Negroni as the Cordón Caulle erupted in Chile on a cold winter's night. The scene of the explosive occurrence is framed from multiple points of view that, at times, look like something straight out of a film with a hefty special effects budget.
The sky, lit up with fractal electric currents, serves as a spectacular background to the natural landscape. Coupled with the volcanic eruption spouting lava and emitting large plumes of smoke, Negroni's photographic collection presents a sight to be seen. Each shot is full of action and excitement, making viewers feel as though they're right there amidst the energetic, naturally occurring activity.

Simple Solar-Powered Charger

Designers Kyuho Song and Boa Oh have developed a solution to having no electrical power source to plug into on the go. While our advancing technology provides countless benefits, it has also added to our modern day inconveniences. One such annoyance that nearly everyone can relate to is having your phone die on you with nowhere to recharge it. Luckily, Song and Oh have designed the Window Socket—a small, readily available, portable solar-charger.
Equipped with a solar panel and suction cup, this product is ideal for use on windows in offices or planes, but could also function while out in nature. The Socket converts the collected solar energy into electricity that can then actively charge any of your handheld devices. It also acts as a backup battery to have on hand for instant recharges.
Since this project is still in the developmental phase it takes up to 8 hours for the device to reach a full charge, making it rather impractical. However, the designers are working on the product in hopes of improving its efficiency and one day making it available to the general public.

The themes vary from room to room, encouraging exploration of the amenities, which includes a festive restaurant and an ice bar.
Guests are also welcome to soak in a relaxing hot tub outdoors. Despite the low temperatures of the environment, past visitors claim, "Inside the igloo it ́s not as cold as expected." IgluLodge explains: "This is due to the interior design of the igloos!" Additionally, they say, "On the snow-beds lies a layer of insulation next to an original Norwegian reindeer skin and a sleeping bag, that without doubt, meets up to a Himalaya expedition!"
The IgluLodge is currently open for guests to book two- or four-person rooms through mid-April.
